The exhibition “Damão Fogo de Coração”, by lecturer Ana Janeiro, opens on 7 November 2026, at 5 pm, at Palácio Anjos – Centre for Contemporary Art, in Oeiras. Part of the exhibition cycle “Caixas para Guardar a Memória”, the exhibition will be open to the public until 7 February 2027 and invites reflection on the stories of migration, identity and belonging within the communities of Damão, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Organised by Oeiras Cultura, in partnership with IHA-NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST, the exhibition explores the stories of communities originating from the former Portuguese territories of Damão, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, drawing on family albums and first-hand testimonies collected from these communities, both in their territories of origin and across the diaspora.

Through intimate and fragmented images, the exhibition reveals narratives of migration, belonging, identity and transformation that have received little representation. These family archives, preserved outside the public domain, serve as important sites of memory, bringing visibility to stories and experiences that often remain forgotten or little known.

More than simply recovering individual and collective memories, “Damão Fogo de Coração” invites visitors to reflect on the relationship between territory, identity and memory, highlighting the journeys and lived experiences of these communities.

The exhibition is open to all audiences, including the academic community.
